Last Sunday my daughter and I went to the garden center nearby our house. I was planning to buy an african violet but when I saw that my daughter really liked the polka dot plant, I decided to buy flowers for her. And then we saw the little dish gardens they were selling and decided to make one for her room. Here is what we used:
1. One tiny pot of Parlor palm (Chamaedorea elegans)
2. One tiny pot of white flowered african violet (Saintpaulia)
3. One tiny pot of polka dot plant (Hypoestes sanguinolenta)
4. One small basket
6. Some spanish moss to cover the soil
7. Some charcoal for the bottom of the container (because there is no drainage hole in the bottom of the liner, using charcoal is necessary for drainage and to prevent foul smelling caused by the humidity)
8. Some potting soil
9. A nice bow

Putting the dish garden together is easy but taking care of it might be a little harder. Since there is no drainage hole in the container, watering it right has the utmost importance. Watering it too much will suffocate the flower while watering it not enough will kill it too. Water your dish garden sparingly, only when it is dry to the touch on the top. With good care, it should last for years.
